The S was launched in the timeframe as the first Sikorsky model to be designed for commercial rather than military missions in order to increase the commercial portion of the company's business. Its intended missions included the transport of workers to and from offshore oil rigs in a 12 passenger version and transport of business executives in a 6 passenger VIP version.
Funding for its design, development and certification was provided from company sources. In particular, the rotor blade aerodynamic and structural features including blade airfoil, twist, swept tip and titanium spar were all embodied in the S The UTTAS elastomeric main rotor head design as well as the cross beam bearingless tail rotor design was also applied to the S The S landing gear is retractable.
SA Executive Transport Helicopter. The sleek lines of the S combined with significant advancements in rotor technologies and with improved engine fuel consumption, resulted in a helicopter having excellent efficiency.
The executive transport version was designed with a quiet cabin which would provide a work environment during flight and allow conversations without the need for headsets. The S was designed to replace small business jets for short to medium business trips. The design accommodates 2 pilots and 12 passengers, to accommodate an oil rig crew change, and was initially powered by two Allison C30 turboshaft engines of shp Takeoff Power each.
The prototype first flew on March 13, The name Spirit was officially dropped by the company on October 9, due to unanticipated complications when Spirit was translated into certain foreign languages. The first production variant was the SA. In this model set 12 world records for speed and time to climb in its weight class. A closed course km mi speed record was set at SA Serial Number Landing. Although not in the original target market, Air Ambulance EMS has developed as an S market based on its high dash speed, long range, and room for 2 patients plus equipment which are not available in the EMS competition.
S Air Ambulances. S First Delivery February, 27, The S helicopter was designed to serve the off-shore oil market and meet its requirements to carry 12 passengers and a crew of 2 on a nautical mile radius mission with flotation equipment and operate IFR Category A. Among the features are: titanium and composite main rotor blades, a bearingless composite tail rotor, bifilar vibration absorbers, and a simplified main rotor transmission.
The main rotor blades incorporate composite materials including a hollow titanium spar that is plasma arc welded and hot formed to its oval shape, a fiberglass cover, a redundant graphite root end, a Kevlar tip cap and Nomex honeycomb in the trailing edge. The main rotor blades use an SC airfoil and have a non-linear twist to load the blades evenly in a hover. Tip caps are swept to reduce noise and vibration. Ride quality in the S was enhanced by a pitch-cone coupling to a maximum of 17 degrees.

He was long using this helicopter that was built in by Stratford, Connecticut-based Sikorsky Aircraft, which was sold to Lockheed Martin in The helicopter is said to be the safest in the business.
Of the 12 helicopter models assessed by the Los Angeles Times inthe Sikorsky S had the second-lowest rate of fatal accidents perflight hours at 0. Only the Airbus was safer. The Sikorsky S is part of the S series and was initially crafted to service the oil and gas industry people travelling to offshore rigs and back.
The helicopter later became a popular choice for corporate executives and VIPs. Many politicians and celebrities, including US president Donald Trump and members of the British royal family use this helicopter.
Sikorsky had sold units of the SB till now. The helicopter Kobe used was "wrapped in a gray-and-black paint scheme with his Mamba emblem on the side," the Times reported. The helicopter was often compared to a Cadillac or a limousine for its comfortable interior.
Although rated among the safest choppers, there have been two other fatal crashes involving the Lockheed Martin SB in the recent years. A medical helicopter crashed in Canada in killing four people on board while in a crash in Turkey resulted in the deaths of seven people.

The S features twin turboshaft engines, four-bladed main and tail rotors, and retractable landing gear. The development of the S began in the mids as the S, with the design goal of providing a medium helicopter for corporate transportation and the oil drilling industry; the S was later redesignated the S in honor of the U. Sikorsky's design work on the S helicopter which was selected for use by the United States Army as the UH Black Hawk was utilized in the development of the S, incorporating S design technology in its rotor blades and rotor heads.

Over Ss had been delivered by early It is powered by two Turbomeca Arriel 2S2 engines and incorporates an improved and quieter transmission as well as minor changes in the interior equipment and avionics. There were 92 orders for this model as of January Development of the follow-on SD was subject to four years of delays due to technical problems in expanding the flight envelope.
The prototype made its first flight on February 7,and type certification was initially expected inwith deliveries forecast for the end of that year. It was FAA certified on 12 October Three prototypes were used in the certification program, with one aircraft used to certify the optional rotor electric ice-protection system.
The S is of conventional configuration, with a four-bladed fully articulated main rotor and a four-bladed anti-torque rotor on the port side of the tailboom. Two turboshaft engines are located above the passenger cabin. The main rotor hub has a single piece aluminum hub with elastomeric bearings designed not to require lubrication or any other kind of maintenance throughout its design life.
The rotor tips are tapered and swept back. The fuselage of the aircraft is of mixed metal and composites construction; the nose is composed of fiberglass while the cabin primarily employs a light alloy honeycomb structurethe semi- monocoque tailboom is also constructed of light alloy.Calculate water intake per body weight
The S was the first helicopter to circumnavigate the world in an east-to-west direction, piloted by Australian adventurer Dick SmithinOn 26 January a Sikorsky SD model year carrying Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and several others crashed in the hills of Calabasas, California, about 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
The helicopter carrying Bryant and his daughter were on their way to an AAU basketball game when the helicopter crashed in the Santa Monica mountains.
Causes of the crash are still unclear at the time of writing. Eyewitness reports mention the helicopter sounded like it was struggling, or as if the engine was not running properly. Some aviation experts suspect the thick fog covering the hills on the morning of the accident may have had something to do with the crash.
The morning of the crash visibility was so low the Los Angeles Police Department has grounded its helicopters. The helicopter was flying with SFVR clearance special visual flight rules. This allows pilots to fly in weather conditions worse than when flying under regular VFR visual flight rules. Flying in these conditions are not usually recommended, however they are quite common.
While flying with this special clearance the pilot will keep closer contact with air traffic control.Alphacard id suite light software download

I've found it was a Sikorsky SB, which is the Mark II version of the S, a then-new type of helicopter designed in the '70s, originally to ferry oil executives from shore to deep-sea drilling platform. An SB in use by the Thai Navy. An S interior fitted out for VIP transport. President Trump personally owns an SB although he has not been allowed to use it after winning the election; the Secret Service restricts him to Marine One for helicopter trips.
Trump's personal SB, purchased for use when he was a civilian. Design-wise, the S is similar to the U. The twin engines on both craft are overhead; with the Blackhawk this provides a roomy interior in which to cram more troops, and on the S, passenger space. The spacious interior makes the S attractive both for executive transport and adaptation as an air ambulance, as there's ample room for a prone patient and first responders to administer aid in-flight.
An SB in rescue livery. What I can't figure out is how Bryant's specific helicopter was outfitted to carry eight passengers I can't find any photos of its most recent interior.
